MotoGP heads to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya this weekend and with a Spanish 1, 2 in Italy, after Rossi was forced to retire due to engine problems, it’s sure to be an interesting weekend with the Italians more than likely seeking a “revenge victory” on Spanish soil.
This weekends race also comes after the news that Marc Marquez has renewed is contract with Honda through 2018. In possibly more interesting news, as Marc was obviously not going anywhere else, Pol Espargaro left Tech 3 Yamaha and not too long after it was announced that he would be joining his current team mate, Bradley Smith, at the new KTM MotoGP outfit in 2017. I am really looking forward to seeing the KTM machine in action and we may be getting a taste at this years Austrian GP.
However the weekend has taken a turn for the worse and will be overshadowed by the loss of Moto2 rider Luis Salom. Salom was involved in a crash at turn 12 of the the Catalunya circuit, during Moto2 Free Practise 2. He was transferred to the nearby hospital in Catalunya, but despite best efforts, Salom died of his injuries.
Due to this I will be keeping this blog entry short and pass on my condolences to the family, friends and team of Luis Salom. Race In Peace!
My word dedicated to Luis Salom.
